Crimson Pride finishes sweep of RedStorm

COLUMBUS, Ind. - On Thursday afternoon, Indiana University Columbus gutted the University of Rio Grande with a doubleheader sweep which erased any hopes the RedStorm had of advancing to the post-season.
In Friday afternoon's season finale, the Crimson Pride rubbed salt in the wound.
A three-run first inning and three additional sixth inning markers proved to be enough for IUC in a 6-4 triumph over Rio Grande in River States Conference baseball play at Cera Sports Park.
The Crimson Pride, who recorded their first - and only - series sweep of the season, finished 13-36 overall and 7-20 in league play.
Rio Grande, which entered the weekend needing a sweep of their own to culminate a strong late season run and earn a post-season berth, finished 27-21 overall and 11-16 in the RSC with the loss.
The RedStorm had twice as many hits as their hosts (10-5), but never recovered from the 3-0 first inning deficit.
Head coach Brad Warnimont's club pushed across single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 3-2, but the three sixth inning markers allowed the Crimson Pride to pull away for good.
Rio Grande added single runs in the eighth and ninth to slice the deficit to 6-4, but left the would-be tying runs on base when the game ended.
Cyrus Robinson had a run-scoring infield single in the first inning for IU Columbus and a bases-clearing, three-run triple in the sixth inning. He finished 2-for-3.
Aidan Sheetz doubled and drove in a run for the Crimson Pride and Wyatt Sutton added a double of his own.
Carter Reitz started and went eight innings to get the win for the hosts, while Gavin Haltom pitched the ninth for a save.
Redshirt freshman Logan Martin (Wellston, OH) started and took the loss for Rio Grande, allowing five hits and ix runs over 6-1/3 innings. He walked five and struck out six,
Freshman KB Perkins (Chillicothe, OH) went 4-for-4 with a double and a run batted in for the RedStorm, while sophomore Gehrig Cordial (South Charleston, OH) tripled and drove in two runs. Freshman Jacob Kaiser (St. Marys, OH) and Riley Wooldridge (Cincinnati, OH) both doubled in a losing cause.
