Rio men post pair of firsts at Glass Indoor

     UPLAND, Ind. - An individual first place finish and a relay winner provided the top showings for the University of Rio Grande men's indoor track and field team at Saturday's George Glass Indoor Invitational hosted by Taylor University at the Taylor-Kelser Fieldhouse.
     Freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany) took top honors in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.52 and was one of five Rio runners to finish in the top eight of the event.
     Junior Kasy Science (Marietta, OH) finished third with a time of 1:24.13, while junior Ashton Beverly (Chillicothe, OH) edged freshman teammate Jahfa Woodley (Trinadad and Tobago) for fourth place by eight one-hundredths of a second. Beverly crossed in 1:24.83, with Woodley posting a time of 1:24.91.
     Freshman Tyler Hill (Reedsville, OH) was eighth after crossing in 1:26.03.
     The RedStorm's other top finish came from its 4x800 relay team - comprised of Woodley, Beverly, Science and sophomore John Young (Leroy, OH) - which finished in a mark of 8:01.60.
     Rio had six other top eight performances at the meet, which was not team scored.
     Junior Rowen Gerlach (New Haven, WV) was the runner-up in the shot put with an effort of 15.14m; freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia) was third in the long jump with a mark of 6.58m and sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07; senior Spencer Harris (Gallipolis, OH) placed third in the high jump after clearing 1.86m; junior Nick Knight (Proctorville, OH) finished sixth in the shot put with a toss covering 14.11m; and freshman Marcos Salcedo-Martin (Madrid, Spain) was eighth in the shot put with a heave of 13.72m.
     Rio Grande is slated to be back in action on Friday and Saturday at meets in Louisville, Ky. and Youngstown, Ohio.
