Rio's Jenkins breaks long-standing school record

     RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Tyler Jenkins erased a school record which stood for nearly 50 years to highlight the efforts of the University of Rio Grande men's indoor track and field team at a pair of a two-day meets.
     Jenkins, a senior from Barnesville, Ohio, was among those competing in the ULPNC Lenny Lyles Indoor Invite in Louisville, Ky.
     In a field filled predominantly with NCAA Division I athletes, Jenkins finished 46th in a field of 100 runners after posting a time of 4:13.31. In addition to setting a new personal-best time, he also broke the previous school record of 4:13.36, which was set by Rio Athletic Hall of Famer Bernie Tilley in 1977.
     Senior Trevon Houston (Cleveland, OH) also had a pair of Top 20 outings at Louisville, finishing 12th in the 400-meter run (B Division) with a time of 49.15 and 19th in the 200-meter dash (C Division) with a personal-best mark of 22.207.
     Freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany) also cracked the Top 20 in the C Division of the 400-meter run after crossing in 50.52.
     The majority of the RedStorm participated in the YSU Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
     Sophomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH) recorded a pair of Top 10 outings to lead the way, taking fifth in the shot put Elite division with a toss of 15.44m and placing eighth in the weight throw at 14.77m.
     Rio had five other Top 10 performances in the meet.
     Freshman Bjorn Kjonstad-Prestvik (Trondheim, Norway) was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.56, while freshman Levi Wolford (Patriot, OH) was eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.74m and freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia) was eighth in the long jump with an effort of 6.69m.
     Junior Rowen Gerlach (New Haven, WV) placed ninth in the shot put Elite division with a heave of 14.20m and sophomore Logen Justice (Lancaster, OH) was ninth in the high jump Seeded bracket with a mark of 1.84m.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to split its squad again next Saturday, with a portion of the team heading to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the University of Michigan Invitational and others bound for Ashland, Ohio and the Jud Logan Invite at Ashland University.
