RedStorm men ready for NAIA nationals

     GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Eight individuals and three relay teams will represent the University of Rio Grande in the 69th NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship hosted by the Gainesville Sports Commission at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center at Celebration Pointe.
     The meet gets underway on Thursday and continues through Saturday. in Gainesville, Fla. from March 5-7.
     Getting things started for the RedStorm on Thursday will be a quartet of competitors in the 3,000-meter race walk preliminaries at noon.
     The foursome includes freshman Angel Montes (Mexico), senior Mugisha Pomossene (Dayton, OH), freshman Nathan Ward (Galena, OH) and graduate senior Carter Lipscomb (West Union, WV).
     The final in the event is slated for Friday at 11:15 a.m.
     Preliminary rounds for all of the relay races are also set for Thursday.
     The 4x800 relay prelims are set for 3:15 p.m. Rio's entry will come from a group which includes junior Ashton Beverly Chillicothe, OH), freshman Tyler Hill (Reedsville, OH), senior Trevon Houston (Cleveland, OH), Lipscomb, junior Kasy Science (Marietta, OH), freshman Moritz Seigel (Leipzig, Germany), freshman Jahfa Woodley (Trinada and Tobago) and sophomore John Young (Leroy, OH).
     At 4:15 p.m., the 4x400 preliminaries are scheduled. Representing the RedStorm will be Beverly, senior Spencer Harris (Gallipolis, OH), Hill, Houston, sophomore Anthony Portis, Jr. (Huber Heights, OH), Science, freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany) and Woodley.
     The last of the three relays - the Distance Medley - is set to go at 5:45 p.m. Rio's quartet will come from a pool which includes Beverly, Houston, senior Tyler Jenkins (Barnesville, OH), Science, Seigel, Sileshi, Woodley and Young.
     The finals in 4x800 are set for Friday at 6:25 p.m., with the Distance Medley scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. and the 4x400 on Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
     Freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia) will be competing in the long jump on Friday. The preliminaries and the finals are set to get underway at 3 p.m.
     Also on Friday, Science will run in the 800-meter run preliminaries at 3:30 p.m. The finals are set for Saturday at 2:25 p.m.
     Saturday's action will also find sophomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH) in the shot put, with the preliminaries and final slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
     Sophomore Ryder Crawford (Owensville, OH) will be part of the 3,000-meter run final at 3:15 p.m., with Jenkins set to run in the 5,000-meter final on Saturday at 4:20 p.m.
