RedStorm men maul Midway

Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Outside of a third set blip on the radar, it was complete domination for the University of Rio Grande men's volleyball team on Tuesday night.
The RedStorm blitzed Midway University in each of the first two sets and, after stubbing their collective toes in set three, got back to how things started in the fourth period for a 3-1 rout of the Eagles in River States Conference action at the Newt Oliver Arena.
Rio Grande won the match 25-12, 25-7, 24-26, 25-13 to push it record to 12-9 overall and 4-6 in league play.
Midway dropped to 2-20 overall and 0-10 in the RSC.
The Eagles had just four kills and 15 attack errors over 49 swings in the opening two sets (-.224), while Rio Grande had 29 kills and nine errors in 53 swings (.377) over the same period.
The RedStorm jumped to a 7-0 lead to begin set one and scored the first nine points in set two.
Midway looked as if it would be swept, trailing 23-19 in set three after a kill by Rio sophomore Daniel Rivas (Valle Del Cauca, Colombia), but the Eagles finished the stanza on a 7-1 run to take the set and extend the match.
Order was restored in set four, though.
Midway scored the first two points of the set, but Rio responded with a 7-1 run and never looked back.
Sophomore Camilo Murillo (Cali, Colombia) finished with 18 kills to lead the winning effort, while Rivas had 17 kills and a team-high 13 digs and senior Mitch Bartecki (Valparaiso, IN) had a season-high 51 assists.
Senior Josef Iten (Sacramento, CA) added 11 kills and a team-best four block assists and sophomore Thomas Lhoste (Courbevoie, France) was credited with 12 digs for the RedStorm, who finished with a .396 swing percentage (63 kills, 19 errors, 111 attacks).
Midway finished with 19 kills and 22 errors over 96 swings for a -.031 attack percentage.
Braden Cacek and JT Kimball had five kills each for the Eagles, while Jordan Daily had 15 assists and Lincoln Anderson tallied 11 digs.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Saturday when it hosts Indiana University East in the RSC Match of the Week.
