Rio grapplers fall to Georgetown, Gray Wolves

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The University of Rio Grande men's wrestling team came up short twice on Saturday, dropping a pair of duals to Lourdes (Ohio) University and to host Georgetown College in the first-ever duals hosted by the Tigers at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
The RedStorm fell to Lourdes, 29-22, while dropping a 48-12 decision to Georgetown.
Rio's win over Lourdes came from freshman Jaydon DeHart (Ashland, KY) by forfeit at 133 pounds; from sophomore Benjamin Sloan (Ironton, OH), who pinned James Cevizian at 149 pounds; senior Mackandle Freeman (Point Pleasant, WV), who won a 14-6 major decision over Mason Ducat at 157 pounds; and from senior Bruce Wagers (Cincinnati, OH), who continued his recent roll at 285 pounds by defeating Collin Sullivan by fall.
Three of the RedStorm's losses to the Gray Wolves came by forfeit.
Four of the setbacks against the host Tigers also came as a result of forfeit.
Rio's wins versus the host school came from Freeman, who pinned Jeremy Mills at 157 pounds, and from Wagers, who won by forfeit in the heavyweight bracket.
Rio Grande is scheduled to wrap up the home portion of its schedule on Thursday night when it hosts the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) for a Mid-South Conference Senior Night matchup at the Newt Oliver Arena.
The dual is set for a 6 p.m. start time.
