Reinhardt tops RedStorm in Classic finale

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Ainsley Hight and Molly Stevens drove in two runs each as Reinhardt (Ga.) University pulled away late for a 5-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Sunday morning, on the final day of the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Leadoff Classic at South Commons Field No. 4.
The loss left Rio Grande at 7-6 on the season.
Reinhardt pushed its record to 5-3 with the win.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to run-scoring hits by Eryn Lee and Stevens and maintained their advantage before tacking on three insurance markers over the final two frames.
Hight hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, while Stevens had a sacrifice fly and Hight added an RBI hit in the seventh.
Reinhardt starter Anslie Pettit checked the RedStorm on just three hits and struck out four in a shutout effort.
Freshman Meredith Pieratt (Eaton, OH) started and lost for Rio Grande, allowing six hits and two runs over four innings.
Rio Grande will return to action next Friday when it opens River States Conference play at Brescia Univesity.
