Halstead sixth, Rio women third at OBC No. 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Hannah Halstead's Top 10 finish sparked the University of Rio Grande women's bowling team to a third-place showing in Saturday's Ohio Bowling Conference No. 2 Tournament at the Columbus Bowling Palace.
Halstead, a senior from Delaware, Ohio, placed sixth with 595 pins toppled in three games for an average of 198.3. Her 232 in round three also served as the team's top single-game score in the event.
The RedStorm had 4,770 pins as a team to take third place in the field of 14 teams.
The University of Northwestern Ohio captured the team title with 5,273 pins, while Muskingum University took the runner-up spot with 5,019 pins.
Medalist honors among the 126 participants belonged to UNOH's McKenzie Wagner, who had 640 pins over three rounds for a 213.3 average.
Also representing Rio Grande in the varsity competition was sophomore Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who took 24th place with 535 pins in three rounds; junior Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 35th with 519 pins in three games; junior Julie LeMaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 57th with 473 pins in three rounds; and junior Jaelyn Hughes (Indian Lake, OH), who was 66th with 451 pins over three games.
Rio Grande also placed an entry in the nine-team junior varsity division and finished eighth with 3,351 pins.
Shawnee State won the JV team title with 4,188 pins, with Mount Vernon Nazarene finishing second (4,145 pins) and Capital University (3,958 pins) taking third place.
The RedStorm's top individual showing came from sophomore Melanie Liming (Georgetown, OH), who was 63rd with 463 pins in a trio of games.
Others rolling for Rio in the JV competition were freshman Ariah Zellner (Crestline, OH), who was 84th with 388 pins in three games; sophomore Addison Jones (Winchester, OH), who was 92nd after toppling 350 pins in three rounds; freshman Keerstin Shaver (Vinton, OH), who was 95th with 341 pins in three games; and sophomore Kendall Harrod (Chillicothe, OH), who was 105th with 298 pins over three rounds.
The RedStorm are scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Bulldog Bash in Richmond, Ky.
