Shular leads Rio women at Distance Classic

     ATHENS, W.Va. - A handful of athletes representing the University of Rio Grande women's track & field team opened the outdoor portion of the RedStorm's 2025-26 schedule at Saturday's Mikey Cox Distance Classic.
     All of Rio's competitors participated in the 3,000-meter run and four finished in the Top 10.
     Freshman Brandy Shular (Winchester, OH) had the RedStorm's top showing, taking second place with a time of 11:06.56.
     Grace Heffernan (Patriot, OH) finished fourth after crossing in 11:06.56, while Camryn Huck (Beverly, OH) was fifth in 11:51.91 and Briana Nelson (Chillicothe, OH) placed 10th with a time of 13:23.71. Like Shular, all three are freshmen.
     The meet was not team scored.
     The RedStorm's full squad opens the Spring schedule next Thursday at the Allen Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
