Montgomery leads Rio women at Otterbein Twilight

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Kylie Montgomery had a pair of runner-up finishes to go along with a third-place showing, while Taylor Bartrum provided the University of Rio Grande women's track and field team with its only win, leading the RedStorm at Friday's Otterbein University Twilight.
Montgomery, a sophomore from Coal Grove, Ohio took second place in both the 400-meter dash (57.93) and javelin throw (35.81m), while finishing third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56.
Bartrum, a redshirt freshman from Catlettsburg, Ky. won the javelin with a toss that covered 39.79m. She also placed sixth in the shot put with a heave of 11.51m.
As a team, Rio Grande accumulated 56 points and finished fifth among the 19 competing teams.
Cedarville University won the team championship with 146 points, while Ashland University was a distant second at 100.83 points and Mount Union was third at 93.33 points.
Rio Grande had five other Top 10 individual outings, including two runner-up finishes, as well as a pair of relay units which finished in scoring positions.
Junior Laura Hamm (South Point, OH) was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.61, while freshman Brandy Shular (Winchester, OH) was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:48.27.
Other notable showings by those representing the RedStorm included freshman Grace Heffernan (Patriot, OH), who was third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:26.67; freshman Hannah Henderson (New Paris, OH), who took ninth place in the triple jump with a leap of 9.63m; and freshman Marley Kreischer (Oak Hill, OH), who was 10th in the mile run with a mark of 5:37.93.
Rio's 4x100 team - comprised of freshman Lydia Leinweber (Dresden, Germany), sophomore Niara Beverly-Akin (Columbus, OH), freshman Alexandria Lefevre (Canal Winchester, OH) and Henderson - finished seventh in a time of 53.13, while the 4x400 relay quartet of Kreischer, Hamm, freshman Joleigh Nott (Gallipolis Ferry, WV) and freshman Camryn Huck (Beverly, OH) also placed seventh after crossing in 4:21.55.
Rio Grande also had athletes at the Centre College Outdoor Twilight in Danville, Ky., but none had a scoring or Top 10 performance.
The RedStorm will return to action on May 1-2 in the River States Conference Championship at the Stockmeister Track and Field in Rio Grande.
