Evans, Williams fourth at Red Lady Open

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alexandria Evans and Haley Williams both posted fourth-place finishes to lead the University of Rio Grande women's wrestling team at Sunday's Red Lady Open hosted by Huntingdon College.
Evans went 4-2 in the 103-pound bracket, while Williams went 2-2 at 110 pounds.
Evans, a freshman from Barboursville, W.Va., began her day by pinning Life University's Macie Anderson at 2:03, but then lost a 12-1 technical fall decision to Annalise Maralit of Presbyterian.
Three more wins came in the consolation bracket - a 10-0 technical fall triumph over Celeste Welch of Newberry, a 6-5 decision over Havana Hampl from Lindsey Wilson (UA) and an injury default over Jackelyn Sanchez of Schreiner University.
In the third-place match, Evans dropped a second technical fall decision, 10-0, to Maralit.
Williams, a sophomore from Mason, Ohio, followed up a first round bye with a pin of Montreat's Ashlyn Eggers at 1:42 before losing by fall at 3:23 to Lindsey Wilson's Ro Adeduntan (UA).
Williams rebounded with a win by fall over Lindsey Wilson's (UA) Audrey Smith at 4:47 of their consolation semifinal before being pinned by Mia Brown of Schreiner University at 0:50.
Freshman Paige Russell (Kettering, OH) also gave Rio a podium finish by taking fifth place in the 160-pound division.
After receiving a first round bye, Russell lost by technical foul, 13-2, to Megan Stottsberry from Life University.
Russell then reeled off two straight consolation bracket wins - by fall over Life University's Kinley Wallace at 2:53 and by technical fall, 10-0, over Emma Stephenson from host Huntingdon.
Central Florida's Katherine Stewart then pinned Russell at 1:56 of their consolation semifinal before Russell defeated Nicole Lewis of Montreat by fall at 1:41 of their fifth place match.
Sophomore Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) also represented Rio in the tourney and posted a 1-2 record in the 138-pound division.
She won by fall at 0:53 over Summer McKeen of Newberry before dropping an 8-4 decision to Joy Jackson of Schreiner University and losing by fall at 4:09 to Caden Collett from Huntingdon.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action next Sunday at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Alfred State University in Alfred, N.Y.
