Evans leads Rio women at LWU Open

     COLUMBIA, Ky. - Alexandria Evans collected a pair of wins to lead the efforts of the University of Rio Grande women's wrestling team in Saturday's Blue Raider Open hosted by Lindsey Wilson University.
     Evans, a freshman from Barboursville, W.Va., went 2-2 in the 103-pound division.
     She won by fall at 2:35 over Madison Leonard, who was wrestling Unattached, and then also pinned LWU's Mylee Goodwin - who was also wrestling unattached - at the 3:32 mark of their quarterfinal round bout.
     Evans the lost a 10-7 decision to Sienna Caruso of Lindenwood University in the semifinals of the championship bracket before losing a decision to Lindsey Wilson's Skyler Randolph in the consolation semifinals.
     Two of Evans' teammates - sophomore Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) and freshman Paige Russell (Kettering, OH) - participated at 138 and 160 pounds, respectively.
     Ortez-Pierce was pinned 58 seconds into her match with Lexi Ritchie of Lindsey Wilson University and, after receiving a bye in the consolation first round, she forfeited her next match to Kyra Tomlinson from Greensboro College.
     Russell got a first round bye before dropping a 4-2 decision to Talia Reed of Missouri Baptist University.
     She rebounded to pin Campbellsville's Aubree Avery at 5:40 before being pinned by Bralyn Maynard, who was wrestling Unattached at 1:35.
     Rio Grande will return to action on Feb. 20 at the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky.
