RedStorm women place 4th at Thundering Herd Invite

     HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The University of Rio Grande women's cross country team opened their 2025 season on Friday evening, finishing fourth in the Thundering Herd XC Invite hosted by Marshall University at the YMCA Kennedy Center Course.
     The RedStorm totaled 102 points, finishing behind Ohio University (15), host Marshall (52) and rival Shawnee State (85).
     "We sat our top two returners," said Rio head coach Matt Paxton. "The race at Indiana Wesleyan next week is big for us and our upperclassmen are focusing on that."
     Rio's top finish came from sophomore Laura Hamm (South Point, OH), who was 22nd with a time of 19:29.
     Also representing the RedStorm was freshman Marley Kreischer, who was 24th in a time of 19:52; freshman Brandy Shular, who placed 27th after crossing in 20:06; senior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH), who was 29th with a mark of 20:07; freshman Briana Nelson, who placed 32nd in a time of 20:18; freshman Grace Heffernan (Bidwell, OH), who was 33rd with a mark of 20:27; freshman Camryn Huck, who finished 35th in a time of 20:39; freshman Ava Rooker, who placed 36th with a time of 20:42; freshman Aylah Humphreys, who finished 39th in a time of 21:45; sophomore Rebecca Spohn (New Concord, OH), who was 44th with a time of 22:46; freshman Madison Lejzerowicz, who was 46th in a time of 23:27; freshman Delana Jenkins, who placed 48th in 24:08; and freshman Josie Hancock, who was 49th after recording a time of 24:38.
     Ohio University's Leila Boussedra had the top individual time of 17:32.
     Rio Grande's return at Indiana Wesleyan comes on Friday night with race time set for 6 p.m.
